Bristol City have secured the loan signing of Fulham’s Cauley Woodrow.

The England U21 international has joined on a season-long deal, which could come with the option for City to sign Woodrow on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign? However, that wasn’t confirmed on the Official Website.

Commenting on the deal, City boss Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol: ‘He’s been on our list for a long time. I think he’s found opportunities limited at Fulham, probably because of their playing style and them playing with one up front, but certainly in a two he gives us everything we want.’

Woodrow, an international teammate of former City loanee Tammy Abraham during the U21 European Championship finals in Poland during the summer, had spent the second half of last season on loan at Burton, scoring five goals in 14 appearances, following up previous spells at Luton and Southend.

Burton did want to sign Woodrow, 22, on loan again but Brewers boss Nigel Clough, suggesting a permanent switch to Ashton Gate could be possible next summer, said they couldn’t compete with a Championship rival.

Clough was quoted by the BBC: ‘Cauley is going elsewhere, with a possible permanent at the end of the season so Fulham prefer him to go there. We understand that and we move on to the next targets. There were a couple of deals that Fulham put to us and a lot of clubs are putting in clauses where if you don’t play a certain amount of games you pay a hefty fee at the end. That’s always a problem for us, but if another club come in they will always outbid us in the Championship.’
