Bristol City’s Gustav Engvall has completed his return to Djurgardens.

The forward, scorer of seven goals in 13 games during a three month loan earlier in the Swedish season, has temporarily returned to the Allsvenskan until 30th November.

Explaining the move Lee Johnson told the Official Website: ‘Gus just wants to play. He has a good relationship with the club and did very well there, scoring seven goals in 13 games. He`s right up there with the top scorers in the division. He`s only just turned 21 and he`s still young, so for him at the moment it`s better to be playing regular football than to be getting ten or 15 minutes off the bench now and again.’

Johnson feels Engvall has the qualities to succeed in the Championship but is lacking confidence and physicality at the moment with this move right for City at the moment.

‘We have to do what`s right by Bristol City, but we also have to do what`s right by the player. Given the fact we`ve brought Niclas (Eliasson) in and we have Matty Taylor and Milan Djuric on their way back in the next week or two, it`s probably the right time. He`s definitely got qualities – he`s got top-level movement and he can finish. He can be physically strong, but the Championship is very physical and at the moment he`s probably just a bit short of that confidence or physicality,’ said the boss.

Adding: ‘When he goes back to Sweden he lights the place up and he walks six foot tall. There`s a big difference in the divisions tempo-wise. Every time we get Gus back he gets a little bit better. If he was one we`d brought through our Academy, everyone would be really excited about him. The fact that we paid money for him simply means he`s got an opportunity at Bristol City, which he will get at some point in the future.’

Meanwhile, another player who could yet leave Ashton Gate before the end of the month, Joe Bryan, could miss the trip to Birmingham when City face the club who have tried to sign the left back.

International clearance is also needed for Swedish winger Niclas Eliasson.

‘We need international clearance, which is dependent on the speed of the offices in the other nations and the Swedish FA,’ Johnson told the Official Website. ‘Joe Bryan has got a little whack on the top of his ankle, so we`ll have to see. I would probably rate him 60/40 in favour.’
