City honcho Gary Johnson said Danny Haynes’ stoppage time equaliser at Forest on Saturday “felt like a winner.”

Johnson’s side trailed 1-0 with five minutes to go before the lively Danny Haynes struck to make sure City had a share of the spoils.

Speaking to Radio Bristol after the game, Johnson said: “It was a deserved point.”

“We were gutted when they scored five from the end but we made a quick tactical change by pushing big Jamie forward, but we still had to find him.

“Danny Haynes was the most dangerous he’d been for the whole game and fair play to him snuck in for a last-gasp goal.

“Forest are a team on fire at the moment and we quietened them down. They didn’t have too many chances but there wasn’t much in the match.

“They scored from a set-piece which was disappointing, but it feels like a win when you score so late on.

“Yes, we showed character with the response at the end but we needed to show character for the whole game.”

TRAGEDY

Despite the obvious joy at Haynes’ late leveller, Johnson also revealed the sad news surrounding winger Ivan Sproule.

“His little baby sadly died at birth and our thoughts go out to him. We’ve a close bunch of lads; Ivan and his wife have some close friends and family around him right now.

“It hit us all very hard. Ivan sent us a message to read out last night at the hotel, and it was a moving statement. We appreciate him sending that to us – our heart goes out to him, his wife and family at the moment.”

Our condolences are with Ivan and his family at this sad time.
