New Bristol City midfielder Paul Hartley believes Premiership football is not out of reach for the Robins this season.

The 32-year-old swapped Parkhead for Ashton Gate last month and insists he has joined a club with genuine promotion credentials this year.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hartley said: “The club’s very ambitious and everyone’s pulling in the same direction, which is the Premier League where everybody wants to play.

‘It’s the biggest league in the world and hopefully we can challenge.

Hartley reckons this years Championship will be an openly contested one, despite the perceived strengthening of the league with the addition of relegated trio Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Brom.

‘There are ten or so teams that feel they can get the top two spots and we’re no different,’ he said.

‘We feel we’ve got a very good squad here that can challenge.’
