Following today’s clash between Bristol City and Norwich City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Bristol City hosted Norwich City on Saturday January 13, with the visitors taking a one nil victory courtesy of a James Maddison strike eleven minutes from time.

The hosts had more of the ball but struggled to break down the visiting defence, however they did have a shot cleared off the line and hit the post ahead of Maddison’s effort which came against the run of play.

Teams:

Bristol City:

Fielding, Wright, Flint, Baker, Bryan, Pack, Smith, Brownhill, Walsh (Kent 69), Paterson (Taylor 76), Reid (Magnusson 89).

Substitutes:

Steele, Woodrow, Eliasson, Vyner.

Norwich:

Gunn, Hanley, Zimmermann, Klose, Ferreira Mendonça Pinto, Tettey, Vrancic, Lewis, Maddison (Reed 90+2), Oliveira (Raggett 90+5), Murphy (Stiepermann 89).

Substitutes:

Husband, Hoolahan, McGovern, Cantwell.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Simon Hooper blew the final whistle, Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson explained.

‘The ball is not quite breaking for us in the opposition box at the moment and that was an unbelievable save. I always feared this period of games and perhaps we are victims of our cup success. The Manchester City game in midweek took a huge amount of energy out of the players. We did OK today, but perhaps lacked a physical presence up front. Unfortunately, due to injury, that is not an option I have at the moment.’

Norwich head coach Daniel Farke in his comparative interview explained.

‘We had a really thin squad today, but we had a special plan for this game and I have to congratulate my players because it worked perfectly. It was a tough week for us, with two players leaving and some injuries. This ranks up there with the best results we have had while I have been in charge.’
