Manager Lee Johnson has hailed the Bristol City performance in the weekend’s comprehensive victory over Derby County.

Welcoming Derby to Ashton Gate for the game, whilst the visitors took the first half lead from the penalty shot just a short time before the half hour mark, a sterling second half showing saw goals from Cauley Woodrow, Bobby Reid, Jamie Paterson and Famara Diedhiou to give us the four one win, and Johnson’s delight at the full time whistle was clear to see.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Johnson beamed.

‘It was a fantastic performance and I`m delighted for the lads at the end of a tough week. To come out with seven points from Reading away, Wolves away and Derby at home is outstanding – it could have been nine if we hadn`t conceded late on against Wolves. We made the right changes and, to a man, the players were fantastic. If anything, we looked the ones that we physically dominant towards the end, with the substitutions that we made.’

Johnson went on to say.

‘Even in the first half I thought we were the better side and definitely didn`t deserve to come in at half-time 1-0 down. My team talk was simple, we needed more of the same because I didn`t believe they would be able to concentrate with all the attacking threats we had. We asked for an energetic performance from the crowd and they produced that; in turn the players produced against one of the Galacticos of the division.’

With Stoke City up on Tuesday evening in the League Cup, the gaffer was hoping that we’d see some momentum run through to that one, but he did confirm he’d already made his decision on the starting eleven and the players already knew.

‘I`d already picked the teams for the games with Derby and Stoke, injuries permitting, and I told them in the build-up because I think it`s important to keep everyone involved and everyone focused.’

He admitted Hordur Magnusson and Niclas Eliasson would be involved, but Woodrow and Jonathan Leko are ruled out given they are cup tied.
