Cardiff City manager Dave Jones sang the praises of Peter Whittingham after the 3-2 victory over Bristol City on Saturday.

The midfielder hit a brace, the first pulled the Bluebirds level at the start of the second half and then a great free kick beat David James to seal victory for the home side.

Jones said: “Peter Whittingham was outstanding and his work rate was superb.

“He’s also back to scoring again and both free-kicks were superbly taken. His second was pure quality.”

And reflecting on the game as a whole, Jones added: “The first 10 minutes were very sloppy defensively and some of the players looked as though they were still on an international break.

“We had plenty of opportunities to score yet looked a little lazy at the back and perhaps that was because two of our defenders were away on international duty but never played.

“It was hard when we were 2-0 down but we cleared our heads quickly got back in to the game with Jay Bothroyd’s goal and I told them at half-time if we could keep a clean sheet in the second half we would go on to win.”
