Striker Matt Smith has been awarded the Ultimate Finish of the Season award for one of the five goals that he bagged against Gillingham while on loan at City.

The goal in question came in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against the Gills, in which Smith smashed home from the angle of the penalty area which also earned him the award for best goal in the Area Finals.

There were ten goals to choose from and 25 year old Smith commanded 40% of all votes cast to win the accolade which goes a little way to making up for the fact that he had to return to his parent club Fulham before the final at Wembley.

Smith said to reporters: ‘I loved my time at Bristol City and to be part of such a successful squad was a great feeling.

‘It was a little bit disappointing not to be able to play in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley but I had spent the maximum time there on loan and there was nothing anybody could do about it.’
