Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard could take his place on the bench for the visit of Leeds United on Saturday.

The 24-year-old, who was the Robins’ top scorer last season with 21 goals, has been out of action all season after undergoing knee surgery.

But City’s record signing managed an hour for the reserves in a 1-1 draw with Swindon on Wednesday.

“If the gaffer wants me then I feel ready,” Maynard told bcfc.co.uk

“Obviously I’m a little rusty but the match time in the reserves and in training is helping me all the time.”

The news will come as a huge boost to boss Keith Millen, who has struggled for strikers at times this season.

The City gaffer added: “Nicky could come into the squad for the Leeds game. He says his knee feels fine and his fitness is improving all the time.”
