City manager Derek McInnes had nothing but praise for his side after the 1-1 draw with Derby, but he singled out Brett Pitman for his wonder strike.

Pitman came on as a sub after 72 minutes and within two minutes launched an unstoppable curling shot that earned the Robins a point after they fell behind to a Craig Bryson goal after 20 minutes.

Both managers paid tribute to the superb Brett Pitman strike that rescued a point for relegation-threatened Bristol City in their 1-1 draw with Derby.

But the point could not stop City dropping into the bottom three after Coventry picked up all three points to crawl out of the bottom three.

McInnes said: ‘One tremendous piece of skill from Brett Pitman has earned us a point. We have played better and lost on many occasions this season.

‘Brett loves to shoot and at times we had passed up good opportunities to test their keeper. Brett needs no second invitation and it was a great goal.

‘I felt we had two good shouts for a penalty, in particular when the Derby defender has put both arms above his head to block Jon Stead’s shot. I don’t know what we have to do to get a spot kick at this club.

‘But overall we will take a point and move on because we didn’t deserve more. Derby worked very hard and made life difficult for us.’
