Bristol City boss Derek McInnes could not hide his delight as he spoke to reporters after the 3-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The win came at a good time for the Robins as it lifted them out of the bottom three and hopes are now high that the win could have been just the kick-start they needed to get their season going finally.

Albert Adomah opened the scoring as the Robins secured their first victory since September 18 and they ended an 11 game winless run with three points in the fog.

McInnes told the Press Association: ‘We played well at times in the early part of the campaign but that was as good a performance as we have put in all season. I was delighted for the lads and for the supporters.

‘We expected Middlesbrough to attack us with the two men up front and we knew it would be tough, we knew we would have to work hard and keep our shape.

‘We did that. I thought we contained them well and I thought we controlled the game for long spells and with that came a bit of confidence. ‘
