Bristol City loan signing Stephen McManus looks set to return to the Riverside Stadium after the Leicester City game at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The Scottish defender’s loan spell with City ends on January 17th and up to now, Derek McInnes has not been in contact with Middlesbrough to discuss a possible permanent move.

McInnes has been trying to bring in younger players and has made enquiries about Crawley centre back Kyle Fradzean. Another move to try and bring in Scott Wootton from Manchester United came to nothing.

It is known that Boro refused to let McManus play for City in the FA Cup, so there may still be plans for him at the Riverside.

Tony Mowbray told Boro’s official site: ‘At this moment in time, if Stephen’s due back on the 17th, he’ll be back on the 17th.

‘Bristol will have to make contact if they want something to happen. We’re not chasing them, so let’s wait and see.’
