Sean O’Driscoll had to admit that he was disappointed to lose the game against Crewe on Saturday, especially as it looked like his side had done enough for a point.

Scott Wagstaff brought down Moore in the area deep into injury time and with seconds left on the clock the Crewe man took the spot kick himself, giving keeper Elliott Parish no chance.

By then City could have been defending a one goal lead had Jay Emmanuel-Thomas found the net when he went through one on one with the keeper.

But it was not to be and the travelling fans went home feeling dejected after witnessing yet another defeat.

O’Driscoll told reporters: ‘I didn’t think either team deserved to win or lose, so we would have been delighted with a nil-nil to be fair.

‘We were resolute and probably had the best chance of the game in the first-half.

‘You would’ve put your money on Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to score one-on-one against the goalkeeper.’

The defeat leaves City back on the bottom of the table after the cruel blow, but O’Driscoll had to admit that a penalty was the right decision for the referee to make.

He added: ‘I’ve seen the penalty and it is soft, but technically the player has been tripped.

‘He was going away from goal and (Scott) Wagstaff had no real chance of getting the ball, so he should’ve just stayed with his runner.

‘It is an error of judgement and we got punished.’
