Bristol City striker John Akinde has been told he is available for transfer this month, as City boss Keith Millen looks to trim his squad.

The 20-year-old’s contract is up at the end of the season and Millen has no long term plans for the player.

Akinde has just returned from a three month loan spell at arch-rivals Bristol Rovers, but is currently out of action because of a minor injury.

Millen told the Bristol Evening Post: “John is back from Bristol Rovers and is being treated for an injury.

“I’ve had a chat with him and told him he needs to find another club.

“He is out of contract in the summer and needs to be somewhere where he can play regular first-team football.

“We’ve spoken about his situation and, just as soon as he is fit again, the plan will be to get him back out on loan.

“There have been no inquiries from other clubs as yet, but John needs to get his career back on track and, in order to do that, he has to be getting games at another club.

“January is an opportunity for him to fix himself up with another club and we are doing everything we can to help with do that.”
