Orr Signs New City Deal

Bradley Orr has signed a new contract with Bristol City.

The right back, who had previously rejected two offers and was expected to leave at the end of the season maybe before, has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract to keep him at Ashton Gate until the end of the 2010/11 season much to manager Gary Johnson’s delight: ‘He feels the club’s ambitious enough, he needed time to think and we gave him that time,’ Johnson told the official website. ‘Now he’s a fully-fledged Bristol City player and we’re very happy with that.’

The 26-year-old had been on the transfer list since November but was recalled to the first-team over Christmas, and Orr is delighted to have also got this out of the way: ‘I’m absolutely delighted; I’m on cloud nine. It took so long because sometimes with contracts that’s how it goes,’ Orr told BBC Points West. ‘To be fair to the gaffer, who I’ve got a great relationship with, I’ve known where I’ve stood since day one.

‘There had been interest from other clubs, but I never want to get sidetracked away from the ultimate ambition in my career which is to play in the Premier League and I feel it’s definitely achievable at Bristol City.’

Johnson sees Orr’s contract signing like a new player arriving, as he was unable to really play him while there was doubt over his future: ‘He’s been a fantastic servant for this football club and we always wanted him to stay,’ Johnson also told Points West.

‘I couldn’t play him while he was thinking about it because you’re never quite sure where their heads are, but he always said when we needed him he’d be ready and he was.’
