Danny Rose has been praised by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp for forcing his way into the first team, following six months on loan at Ashton Gate.
The 20-year-old, who is preparing for the upcoming U21 European Championship in Denmark next month, made 17 appearances for City in the first half of last season – mainly as a left winger.
But after a hamstring injury cut short his loan spell in the West Country, Rose forced his way into the Tottenham side, deputising for the injured Benoit Assou-Ekotto at left-back.
“Benoit [Assou-Ekotto] is a top-class player, but Danny has done well,” Redknapp said.
“I have always said to him that he could be a top, top left-back. That’s where he plays best.
“He has got a low centre of gravity, he’s quick, he’s aggressive and has a great left foot.
“He is a real left-back in my opinion and there will be a big competition between him and Benoit for that position next year.”
Considering left-back has been a problem position for City over the last two or three seasons, many fans will be questioning why we failed to see him in his best position.
One of City’s number-one priorities this summer is the signing of a left-back, with Blackpool’s Steven Crainey and Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand both being linked.
