St Johnstone have granted permission to Bristol City to interview their manager Derek McInnes.

McInnes has been constantly linked with the City job after Keith Millen was sacked at the start of the month, but only hours ago St Johnstone said there had been no formal contact from the Robins regarding their manager.

But it seems that City have now made their move.

A statement on Saints’ official website read: ‘Following negotiations, the club have agreed to Bristol City’s request to interview manager Derek McInnes.’

City chairman Colin Sexstone told his club’s official website: ‘Derek is one of the people we would like to speak with about the job.

‘He is a strong contender, we’ve heard good things about him and hence the reason we have requested permission from St Johnstone to interview him about the role.”

City plan to hold interviews at the start of next week and if all goes according to plan, the new man will be appointed before Sunday`s game with Birmingham City.
