West Ham defender Jordan Spence could be set to rejoin Bristol City on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old penned a new three-year deal at Upton Park last month, after earning rave reviews during an 11-game loan stint at Ashton Gate last season.

And with Hammers boss Sam Allardyce clinching the signing of former Bolton defender Joey O’Brien on Monday, Spence appears to have been pushed further down the pecking order at Upton Park.

But talk of an imminent return to the West Country was fuelled by the man himself on Tuesday night when he Tweeted: “Back in Bristol… Loan deal agreed.”

The two clubs are thought to have agreed a season-long loan package, with the Hammers having the option to recall their England U21 starlet in January.

City are expected to confirm details of the switch on before Saturday’s Championship curtain-raiser against Ipswich Town, with Spence expected to be handed the No.2 shirt.
