Bristol City defender James Wilson is back in action after playing for the reserves on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old has been out of action for nine months, but the young Welshman is delighted to be back in a City shirt again.

Reflecting on his time out, Wilson told www.bcfc.co.uk: “It’s certainly been a long road back.

“I went through three or four months of rehabilitation before the operation in August hoping the problem would get better.”

Tuesday night was the first proper action he had seen since his knee operation in August and he now needs to build his strength up and get in some more match practice before returning for pre-season.

He added: “It’s a year since I last played so it was just nice to pull the shirt on again.

“I’m fit enough, I just need games to build my fitness back up. I may get a chance before this season is out but really the focus must be on pre-season, which is going to be a massive time for me.”
