Attacking Role Lies Ahead For Sno

City newboy Evander Sno has spoken of his desire to be used in a more advanced role after joining on a season-long loan from Ajax.

Sno arrived with a big reputation as a holding midfielder, a position that impressed the City faithful so much in July when Ajax came to town and handed out a footballing masterclass in pre-season.

But the former Holland Under-21 star refuses to be pigeon-holed and insists there is far more City fans can expect from him that being a water carrier.

“I like to get forward and attack and I like to try and link up with the strikers and play close to them,” Sno told the Bristol Evening Post.

“Because they’ve seen me play as a defensive midfielder in the past, people think that is all I can do.

“That is a mistake. There is a lot more to my game and I hope to show that now I am in Bristol.”

In fact, Sno hit out at Martin Jol for his reluctance to utilise his attacking prowess this season which led to him being shipped out on loan and ultimately arriving in BS3.

“I played alongside Neil Lennon in midfield for Celtic and there was little chance to get forward.

“I always had to be square to him and we were told we had to keep the shape when we didn’t have the ball and get back quickly to defend.

“I’ve played that role, but there is another side to me which people in this country have not seen.”

The midfield powerhouse is set to make his Championship bow at Coventry on Saturday in what will be City’s strongest midfield engine room for God know’s how long.

“I was happy to sign as soon as I spoke to him (Gary Johnson).

“Bristol City play football the right way – they like to pass the ball and move it quickly and I like the manager’s philosophy.

“We spoke about my role and I was very happy.”
