A drab affair in the cold Yorkshire drizzle. City managed one attempt at goal of note, Gavin Williams sweetly struck shot from 30 yards with the outside of his right foot. I was celebrating the goal with Moeller rooted to the spot but the ball curled agonisingly wide. After that it was backs to the wall. We had more of the first half but in the second half Barnsley ran us ragged. Stern John made his debut as a second half substitute but barely got a kick such was Barnsleys dominance. We had the poor finishing of Hume and Macken to thank for keeping the score goalless. Macken had to score when left totally unmarked on the right of the penalty area didn’t he? No, he hit his shot wide. I think I might have scored from there. Macken was also late in a challenge on Jamie McAllister which is likely to see him out of action for a few weeks with a broken toe. The game was marred more by Olympic diving contestant Rob Kozluk; one perfect dive earned a first half free kick which Basso saved comfortably, a second dive (with pike) saw him rightly booked and penalty claims turned away in injury time. The referee, by the way, was awful.
