Bristol City picked up a point at home this afternoon after drawing 1-1 with Colchester United.

It looked like being just another one of those days as City had most of the possession and then fell behind to a Matthew Taylor header on the half hour mark. But the Robins didn’t give in and were rewarded with an equaliser in the second half through Sam Baldock.

Unfortunately though, they could not find the winner.
Early on in the game City had pressed for an opening goal only to see chances from Baldock, Wagstaff and Emmanuel-Thomas go to waste.

City turned the screw for around 25 minutes then the visitors decided to bite back and a shot from Monakana was turned around the post for a corner. But a few minutes later and it felt like that old sinking feeling again for City fans when Garbutt sent a ball in from the left and Taylor rose the highest to head past Parish for 1-0.

Baldock and Emmanuel-Thomas tried their best to get City back into the game but Baldock was off target and Jet’s efforts were saved by the Colchester keeper.

Then Harewood, who was on for Reid had a couple of chances, but again off target.

But 16 minutes from time City got the breakthrough, McLaughlin picked the ball up down the left and he sent in a low cross that Baldock controlled before firing home past Walker.

City then pushed for the winner but could find no way through and then almost lost the game at the death had it not been for a timely challenge by Williams that stopped Ibehre from having a scoring opportunity.

Bristol City: Parish; Moloney, Flint, Williams, Shorey; Wagstaff (Elliott 87), Pack, Reid (Harewood 55), Bryan (McLaughlin 66); Emmanuel-Thomas, Baldock.

Colchester: Walker; Wilson, Okuonghae, Taylor, Garbutt; Eastmond (Szmodics 82), Gilbey, Wright; Monakana (Bean 63), Ibehre, Sears (Morrison 83).
