Carey: I want to finish career at City

Louis Carey has expressed a desire to end his playing days at Ashton Gate.

The 34-year-old is out of contract next month but City boss Keith Millen is keen to keep the centre-back next term.

And after recovering from a fractured skull, Carey wants his future sorted sooner rather than later.

“I want to stay and end my career with the club,” the club captain told bcfc.co.uk.

“With no disrespect to anyone else or other clubs, I don’t want to be dropping down the divisions to keep playing.

“I’d like to end everything with my hometown club at a decent level.”

Millen revealed that negotiations are set to begin, and insisted that Carey has a role to play in the coming seasons.

“Louis wants to stay here and I want him here with us beyond the summer. I’m sure we’ll come to an agreement, Millen told the Bristol Evening Post.

“Louis is Bristol City through and through, but you wouldn’t give him another year for those reasons. I wouldn’t offer him a contract just because he’s been here a long time.

“I know he’ll keep himself fit for next year and concentrate solely on playing football. I’m signing him to be a valuable member of the squad.”

The City skipper is second on the all-time leading appearances list, having clocked up 603 games in Red and White.
