Concentrating on a ‘mini league’ could be the way of getting Bristol City out of the mess they are in at the moment according to manager Derek McInnes.

City need to get away from the drop zone over the coming few weeks and they have a chance because of playing a couple of fellow struggling sides.

Sheffield Wednesday are the first side up, they currently sit on the same number of points as the Robins, then come Ipswich Town and Peterborough United before the New Year, then at the start of 2013, City face Barnsley.

Taking the aforementioned teams and looking upon the games as a mini league could give the players the mentality to turn around their season.

McInnes told reporters: ‘All we’ve said to the players is we need to get away from that bottom group.

‘We are in a mini league of five at the minute and for me we have to try and win that league and come out of that and be top of that league after Christmas.

‘That is our league now and our objective now is to win those games against the teams in and around us.’
