Cotterill: ‘We Were Abysmal’.

Steve Cotterill had little to complain about after his side were easily beaten by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

His poor looking side had started the day above United and they needed to get something from the game to stay above them.

But the Blades had it too easy against a toothless side that looked for all the world that they had given up before they even started, goals from John Brayford, Ryan Flynn and a Jose Baxter penalty was more than enough to see off City who are once again staring relegation in the face.

Cotterill told reporters: ‘I was surprised and, unfortunately, the scoreline was a fair reflection of what went on.

‘I can’t dress that up at all and it’s very difficult to talk about what happened to be honest.

‘We were abysmal. We didn’t do anything. Certainly nothing that we’d shown in training during the week.

‘We showed no composure when we needed it and too much composure when we didn’t.

‘I’m a winner and I don’t like it when my teams don’t win. But I like it even less when they play like that.’

City are back in action again on Saturday when they face Gillingham at home and as they are now back in the relegation zone a win is vitally important.
