Blackpool manager Ian Holloway believes that Bristol City can win their battle against relegation and remain in the Championship under the guidance of Derek McInnes.

Holloway was speaking after his side had pushed City to the brink by winning 3-1 at Ashton Gate.

But the former Rovers man says that fans and players alike have to have belief and not lose sight of their goal to avoid the drop.

And Holloway has firsthand experience of relegation after Blackpool were relegated from the Premier league last term.

He said: ‘This league is so tough, so hard, no matter how much you invest. Everybody is trying so hard, it’s scary.

‘The pressure on us managers is ridiculous and it’s even harder when you’re at the bottom.

‘We had it in the Premier League last year and awful things seem to happen all the time.

‘Last year was hideous for me because I couldn’t stop the rot.

‘But no matter what happens, you have to keep believing in what you are doing and the way in which you are doing it.

‘It’s hard, but you have to keep going.

‘When things start going against you and you feel as though you are on a downward slide, you have to believe there are still enough points to play for to get out of the trouble you find yourself in.

‘I’m sure a club as big as Bristol City can get out of this, but they have to believe it.

‘I learned that what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.

‘I genuinely wish them all the very best in their attempts to stay up.’
