When City coach Lee Johnson was playing for the club, he could have gone to Nottingham Forest who the Robins play this weekend.

Ahead of the game at the City Ground, Johnson remembers the time that Forest were very interested in signing the City star and they watched him a couple of times.

Colin Calderwood was the Forest boss at the time and the Bristol Post reports today that Johnson was scouted in 2008 and 2009 leading to Calderwood putting in an undisclosed offer for the player.

Johnson had been with City for five years but seriously gave the move some serious though, but a twist of fate saw him stay at Ashton Gate.

Johnson told the Bristol Post: ‘I thought seriously about leaving Bristol City. In the end it was left to myself and to Forest to make a final decision and I remember they watched me in a game against Sheffield United.

‘We were 3-0 down inside half an hour, I had a stinker and the move ended up not going through. I suppose it was fate.’
