Louis admits to tears after Reading win

City skipper Louis Carey has revealed that he shed a few tears of relief, following our 1-0 win over Reading on Tuesday night.

Carey, 33, admits he was feeling the pressure before City finally claimed three points in front of our own fans, at the sixth time of asking this season.

And in his programme notes ahead of Friday’s Sky-televised visit of QPR, the City stalwart said it was the backing the team received from the Ashton Gate faithful that produced a lump in his throat.

“I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried on the pitch,” Carey wrote in the programme, which was serialised by bcfc.co.uk.

“There was a spell near the end of the first half when we put so much pressure on Reading’s players, forcing them back in their own half, and it got a huge response from the crowd.

“The volume levels raised the roof and the buzz I felt from that was amazing – and I know it was the same for the other lads.

“The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up when we were given a standing ovation from the fans coming off at half-time.

“For whatever reason, when the final whistle went, I shed tears for only the second time because of a football match.

“The noise at the end of the game went right through me and it brought me to tears. The buzz, the adrenalin – I had to hide under my shirt for a little while.

“As we were walking off I could see the emotions all around me too as we had achieved our first home win of the season.

“Not even promotions in the past or cup final wins came close to that feeling on Tuesday. The play-off semi-final win over Hartlepool almost lifted the roof off Ashton Gate in 2004, but given there were 8,000 less fans inside the stadium against Reading, the noise was frightening.

“There was such a togetherness and atmosphere around the place.”

Lets hope for more of the same when QPR come to town on Friday evening (7.45pm).
