City striker Nicky Maynard has urged boss Keith Millen to play two up front for the remainder of the season.

Maynard struggled to make an impact when leading the line on his own in the 3-1 defeat to Norwich a fortnight ago.

But the ex-Crewe prodigy looked a different player when partnered with Brett Pitman for the home win against Burnley, in which both players scored.

“We look a lot more dangerous with two up front and not just one,” Maynard told BBC Radio Bristol.

“Hopefully we can play more with two up front and me and Brett will be able to score a few more goals.”

Maynard has scored four goals in his last six games since returning from a serious knee injury, while Pitman has found the net 11 times this season after joining from Bournemouth in August.

Furthermore, City have not lost on the nine occasions when Pitman has scored and have 100% win rate when Maynard has found the the net since his comeback.

“The main thing is we keep working hard and the gaffer has given us the chance to form a partnership and against Burnley we linked well and got two goals,” added Maynard.

Pitman was also singing off of the same hymn sheet, but was quick to recognise the competition for places up front.

“It’s nice to play up front with Nicky,” Pitman told BBC Radio Bristol. “We get on really well off the pitch and you can see we get on well on the pitch.

“We have five good strikers here and whoever plays together has to be pleased that they’re playing first and foremost.

“I don’t think any two of us are identical players which is good and gives the manager a lot to choose from and a lot to think about.”
