Bristol City boss Derek McInnes wants his players to start next season how they have finished this time around in the hope of avoiding another relegation battle.

The Robins closed their season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Burnley, a result which has left the side unbeaten in their last eight games.

City found form at just the right time to stave off the threat of relegation and McInnes wants his side to build on their strong finish.

‘For me it has not been a disappointing season because we have shown what can be achieved with consistency,’ said the City boss.

‘I said to the players in the dressing room (after Saturday’s game) that the challenge for us as a group and a team is to try to show that level of consistency over the course of a season.’
