The reserves, or Gary Johnson’s ‘second’ first team as he likes to call them, won comfortably with goals from Scott Murray (2), Andy Webster, Ivan Sproule, and Marlon Jackson (2).

The game was significant because it saw the return to action of midfield marvel Marvin Elliott after injury, and the debut of new signing John Akinde. Akinde set up Ivan Sproule’s goal and Elliott completed 75 minutes.

But it was Murray, also returning to action after breaking his wrist, who stole the show with an effort from the half way line. Cherries keeper Ryan Pryce slipped when taking a free kick leaving his goal unguarded. Murray collected the ball near the home dugout and looped an effort goalward that bounced several times before nestling in the back of the net.

Scott was mobbed by his team mates and joins the likes of David Beckham, Xabi Alonso and former City keeper Ray Cashley in an exclusive club of players to have scored from their own half of the field.

He must surely be due an outing in the ‘first’ first team, his skills on the right wing are certainly missed, and where better to make a comeback than his favourite stomping ground, Ninian Park?
