City striker Nicky Maynard made his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury against Leeds over the weekend and is already targeting his place in the starting XI.

The Robins head to Leicester on Friday night and Maynard is chomping at the bit to be involved from the start, after replacing Andy Keogh in the second half at Ashton Gate last Saturday.

“I felt good,” he told bcfc.co.uk. “I’ve been working hard to get into the team. Hopefully I can be on the bench or start on Friday.

“If I did start I’d give my all for as long as my lungs last.

“There were no problems with the knees. I didn’t pull out of any tackles. I can build from here.”

And last season’s top scorer also had a special mention for the City fans, who gave him a standing ovation to welcome him back onto the pitch after six months out.

He added: “It was magnificent. I couldn’t have asked for a better reception.

“Obviously I would have liked to repay the fans with a goal but it wasn’t meant to be.

“I’ll give my all for the team. I’d like to thank the fans for the reception.”
