Bristol City asistant manager John Pemberton says that City could surprise a few people in their first season back in the Championship.

City blasted their way into the second level of English football with a great season behind them, breaking all sorts of records on the way, this season the bookies have installed the lads from Ashton Gate as an 18/1 shot to win the title come next May.

Pemberton feels that the side is better than that and on their return to the Championship after a two year absence, they could do really well.

Speaking after the release of the League fixtures, Pemberton said: ‘For many of our players it will be a new challenge for them playing in the Championship. But I think it’s something they’ll relish and perhaps we’ll surprise a few people.

‘It’s going to be a really good test for us. People will look at us as one of the teams that won promotion from League One and think it will be tough.

‘However, last season we stated early on that we wanted to win the league and that put pressure on the players right from the start, a pressure they handled really well.’

City kick off their league season at Hillsborough on August 8th.
