Vital Bristol City understands promising defender James Wilson will return to Brentford on an initial one-month loan deal.

The Bees are understood to be interested in taking back the 20-year old Wales Under-21 international on a similar arrangement that saw Wilson spend three months at Griffin Park last season.

Brentford boss Andy Scott is keen to bolster his ranks ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton, after losing fellow centre-back Alan Bennett to a groin strain on Tuesday.

Scott told the Hounslow Chronicle: “The urgency was already there, and I`ve spoken to a club and am hopeful that we may have a centre-half or defender in by the weekend.

That was already in place, and now has some urgency because Alan`s injury looks pretty serious.”

The newly promoted League One outfit will have the option to extend the deal beyond the current month, should Wilson prove a hit second time round and the youngster still be deemed surplus to requirements in the West Country.

The defender is highly-regarded by the Ashton Gate management but he currently finds himself behind Fontaine, Carey, McCombe and Nyatanga in the pecking order.

Wilson made 16 appearances in West London last term, earning rave reviews and the attention of Premiership scouts for his performances.
