Former Peterborough defender Tommy Williams has been handed a trial by Bristol City.

The out-of-contract left-back, who spent last season on loan with Preston, came off the bench in City’s 2-1 friendly defeat at Torquay on Wednesday night.

Williams, 30, started his professional career at West Ham and has represented Cyprus at international level.

City manager Steve Coppell said: “He’ll get the chance to impress over the next couple of games.”

Meanwhile, City’s top brass are reportedly talking to Premiership champions Chelsea over a season-long loan deal for Ryan Bertrand

Bertrand, 20, started his career as a left-winger at Gillingham before moving to Stamford Bridge and spending the last three seasons on-loan in the Championship with Norwich and Reading.
