On the back of the behind closed doors friendly against Newport County, Bristol City secured another draw this weekend as we faced Shrewsbury Town.

The game at Ashton Gate saw Callum O’Dowda give us the lead initially before Shrewsbury drew level only five minutes later through Stefan Payne and although we dominated the game against our League One opponents, that was where the scoring ended.

Summer captures Andreas Weimann, Jack Hunt, Adam Webster and Marley Watkins all received their first home bows following their arrivals at the club, but it is pre-season and the focus is always fitness ahead of results. You would like to think with August’s kick off nearing in the Championship we’ll start turning games in our favour purely for an additional shot of confidence and form ahead of the 2018/19 campaign though.

Bristol City:

Frank Fielding (Max O’Leary 46), Jack Hunt (George Dowling 31), Adam Webster, Nathan Baker (Cameron Pring 46), Eros Pisano, Marley Watkins (Opi Edwards 62), Liam Walsh (Josh Brownhill 62), Korey Smith (Connor Lemonheigh-Evans 70), Callum O’Dowda (Rory Holden 70), Jamie Paterson (Famara Diedhiou 62), Andreas Weimann (Saikhou Janneh 62).

Shrewsbury Town:

Steve Arnold, James Bolton (Luke Hendrie 62), Aristote Nsiala (Kieran Kennedy 62), Mat Sadler (Omar Beckles 45), Ryan Haynes (Arthur Gnahoua 62), Shaun Whalley (Alex Gilliead 62), Sam Jones (Bryn Morris 62), Doug Loft, Jon Nolan (Ryan Barnett 62), Stefan Payne (Aaron Holloway 62), Lenell John-Lewis (Fejiri Okenabirhie 62).

Subs:

Ben Wilson, Abo Eisa, Ryan Sears.

Head coach Lee Johnson now prepares for our week-long training camp out in Marbella before we return to Ashton Gate to face AFC Bournemouth on Friday, July 27. The players have landed and begun their work.

Earlier in the morning, we had faced Yeovil Town in another behind closed doors friendly, playing out a 1-1 draw again.
